THE TRIAL BEGINS

MARK 14:53-65

1. What is the significance of Christ being tied up when He was arrested? See Psalm 118:27.

Jesus was our sacrifice for our sins, He was the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world. And so as a sacrifice, He was to be bound with cords, as were the sacrificial animals.

2. What was the only way the Sanhedrin or the Jewish Religious Supreme Court, could come up with a crime against Jesus? See Matthew 26:59-60.

These men were not interested in the truth, only putting to death Jesus, getting Him out of their way. Jesus committed no crime, He was a perfect man. So they came up with lies to convict Him.

3. What evidence did Jesus have to prove that He is God? See Matthew 11:2-6.

Jesus was the fulfillment of what the Old Testament prophets spoke of in regards to the Messiah, who He was to be, what He was to do. Here in Matthew Jesus tells the disciples of John, who is in prison and not sure if Jesus is the Messiah, things were not going like John thought they should, and He tells them to go back and tell John that the blind see, the deaf hear, the mute speak and-so-on, to show John that He is the Messiah!

4. Why did the religious leaders want to put Jesus to death? See John 11:47-48.

They were afraid that if they left Jesus alone He would gather a bigger following then they had. Also, the Romans may get mad at them and remove them from their position. So they tried to silence the truth for their own gain. But, if you ask them now about their decision, they will tell you they were wrong. They did not gain but lost everything and now they have a eternity to think about the choice they made!
