HOW TO GIVE

MARK 12:41-44

1. What is the point that is being made in Haggai 1:3-6?

They were more concerned about taking care of themselves instead of the Lord. The temple was in ruins and they were fixing up their homes. And the result of that was the more they did to earn money, to bring in food, the less they had because they neglected the Lord.

2. Does Malachi 3:10 tell us that if we give to the Lord He will multiply what we give to Him, that if we give a $100 we will get back $1,000? Why or why not?

You can’t give to the Lord without getting something back in return, and it is not always in the form of money. He blesses us in many different ways. But if you give to the Lord to get back, like God is some kind of lottery ticket, then you are giving out of the wrong heart attitude. Your motivation is wrong and you are better off not giving at all!

3. According to John 3:16, how much did God give for us?

He gave everything, He sent His Son, He gave His Son to die for our sins so that we may live. It was unselfish. And he had in mind the need of man, to save that which was lost.

4. In reading through question 3, what does God desire for our lives in the area of giving? See also Romans 12:1.

That we are to give our entire lives to Him as a living sacrifice. For truly when we give we are only giving back that which belongs to Him in the first place. And when you give, give from that which will cost you something, as the Lord has done for us. And remember, God is watching, He knows the motivation of our heart, and He wants to cheer us on as He did as He watched this poor widow give two mites in Mark chapter 12.
