MARK 2:23-3:6

1. As you read Galatians 3:23-26, what point is Paul making in regards to the Law and the grace of God?

The Law could only take us so far, show us our sins, show us we are unrighteous. But the Law could never make us righteous. As James 2:10 says, "For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all." As the Law shows us how we can’t get to God on our own good works, by our own good actions, Jesus comes to us giving us life through Him, a gift of God’s grace. Thus, we are no longer under the Law, but under Grace, we are in Christ!

2. Come up with as many principles to this law as you can - "KEEP OFF THE GRASS!" (One example may be "Don’t touch the grass!")

Don’t walk on the grass

Don’t cut the grass

Don’t smoke the grass

Don’t dance on the grass

Don’t stroll on the grass

Don’t throw anything on the grass

Don’t roll on the grass

And the list can go on and on.................

MARK 2:23-3:6

3. In looking at question number 2, in regards to the Law of God, is that what kind of relationship God wants with us?

God desires a love relationship with us. A relationship that is based on the Law is superficial and done out of the fear of punishment, not out of love.

4. Read John 14:21, 23. Doesn’t that sound like Jesus is saying we should keep the Law? What is His point?

The Law said "Thou shall not..." but Jesus wants us to follow His ways out of love. It is because we love Him that we obey Him. Let us not forget that!

5. According to Romans 8:2-3, why was the Law weak?

Because it can’t save you but only point out your wickedness, your sins, your falling short. Thus, God sent His Son to give us life, paying the penalty for our sins.
